Mysteries of Toulouse Adventure 4:

Isaac and Clement Allenwright were reunited at the Chantry, but just as they started to catch up on each other's adventures, a steward interrupted them with a desperate plea. It seemed a Chantry master of arms had gone missing. Several different crews were being tapped to search for him, and Isaac and Clement were asked to help out in the search of the city, but it would be just the two of them in their small search party.

My buddy, Kurt, was back for another Co-op session of Grimme Perils, so Clement and Isaac would team up again for this one. We asked One-Page Mythic if the Chantry would allow another bodyguard in the wake of Finnian's demise, and we got a No on that question. We then asked if they had another task for us and got an Exceptional Yes. This meant something important. We rolled for Meaning. We got "PC", "perfect", and "burden". After a bit of thinking on this, we decided that one of the masters slated to train us (PC, perfect) had gone missing. This person (whom we randomly determined was a man) was sadly a known drunkard (burden).

The resources arrayed!

Indeed the great Weapons Master, Zosalysi had gone missing in the city, and was to have been last seen in the Glass Ward, at the White Fork Inn. This was a known haven of crime, gambling, and other disreputable activity. Isaac and Clement would have to make their way there to hopefully find and retrieve the wayward master.

We used my latest acquisition, the Nomicon from Mythmere Games, to give our Master the exotic name of "Zosalysi". We used the UNE NPC Generator to determine that he was "boastful" and "courageous". Our picture of Zosalysis was coming together. I also suggested that he had some bad habits--gambling, alcohol abuse, and tendency towards amorous pursuits.

As the cousins headed into the thick night air of Toulouse, would Isaac's weakness to drink get the better of him? Martialing his will, he resisted the urge to indulge while seeking their quarry.

Issac's quirk is Addiction to alcohol, and having rolled only 1 starting Fate for him for this Session, I decided to invoke his Quirk and get the free Luck point. It was also nice that I managed to roll well for his WIL check to resist going on a bender!

While in route to the Inn the pair ran into a trio of overly aggressive City Guardsmen spoiling for a fight! That's when Clement stepped up and told them off in his most convincing and officious voice.

Asking Mythic if we ran into trouble, we got a Yes. Rolling for Meaning, we got "uncertain" and "officials". This screamed of an encounter with some City Guard suffering from a case of mistaken identity. With just one chance to avoid violence, Kurt invoked Clement's "Bailiff" Background and rolled his WIL with a Boon. He quickly overawed the Guard and they left us in peace.

Clement confronts the guards.

Once at the White Fork, the cousins quickly attracted some undue attention from Cambio Giot, a scurvy riverboat sailor with a shady crew of fellow thugs at his side.

While asking around the inn about our missing master, we asked Mythic if this attracted any undue attention to us. We got an Exceptional Yes.  A quick combo of UNE NPC and Nomicon rolls got us a "dogmatic" and "embittered" man--riverboat sailor Cambio Giot. We quickly decided that the reason he and his fellows were such a threat was because they were holding Zosalysi against his will, and he was hidden somewhere on the premises.

Loke battlemats nicely cover the Inn.

These riverboat scum were not acting at their own direction, of course. The fearsome river pirate captain Claro Ibello stepped from the shadows and ordered them to attack. The fight was joined!

Ibello (a Wargames Foundry figure) stands in the back.

Mythic, Nomicon, and UNE again delivered us a great NPC foe in Captain Ibello, but we also gained an unexpected ally in the constantly complaining Lamplighter Clovus. When we asked Mythic if these riverboat scum had a leader, we got an Exceptional Yes. That told us he was dangerous. But that also led us to believe he might have enemies at the Inn. Again, Exceptional Yes! So we picked up Clovus, and the Meaning tables got us "bleak" and "light".

As Ibello's crew stepped up to menace Isaac and Clement, a sour-faced Lamplighter rose to defend them. Now the battle was a bit more fair, and the unlikely trio began to turn the tide in their favor.

A severely wounded Cpt. Ibello runs away!

Once the their foes were dead, or fled, the pair (and their new ally) found Zosalysi bound and gagged in a back room of the Inn. None the worse for wear, they brought the wayward weapon master home.

At Session's end, both Isaac (4th adventure) and Clement (2nd adventure) earned a new Tier increase. Both rolled the Survival Bonus, which brings a +2 Health increase and a free Boon on any one check that refreshes each Session. A great adventure all around.

Thanks for reading!
