Flames of Orion First Game
My buddy Stu and I played our first game, a test game, really, of Flames of Orion today.
For the time being, I am using some repurposed BattleTech models. The rules played fast, and quite deadly for light Mechs. Heat management was a fun mini-game of risk-reward.
It was really satisfying to play on some of my homemade terrain, along with some cool acquisitions, including some Safari trees I grabbed from Amazon.

We found out pretty quickly that Light Mechs are extremely fragile; it only takes a couple of good hits to take one out. In going for an objective, I exposed him to withering fire. When it blew up, my pilot was able to eject.

The BattleTech buildings seen in the pics will do nicely moving forward, but I am going to get some other options into the rotation, and I will feature those in upcoming posts.

I am going to make official, painted explosion counters to better depict the epic destruction.

As the Scuttler exploded, it took a couple of buildings and Mechs with it. Knowing buildings could blow up in this game, I made some rubble bases to swap them out with when they did get destroyed. It was great seeing them on the table.
This week I will work on my campaign force, which will be comprised of hard plastic figures from Dream Pod 9's CEF faction.
More soon!
