The Return of SuperFigs?
Well, maybe. The last year or so I have been quietly working with a talented digital sculptor who approached me about redesigning the SuperFigs line as STL files. It's been 24 years since the release of the first SuperFigs, and I just can't believe it.
So he has been slowly beavering away at figures who strike his fancy. And I am content to let the process play out and see where it goes. There's no deadline. No release date. No pressure.
But Eric did send me some test prints last month, and I finally got around to painting them up. Last year I had also gotten a batch and painted them, and I might have shared them on my FB group, but I don't remember. Anyway, these two are very nice and I am happy to show them off here now.
We have Zoya and Tenpin, along with some rebased Heroclix for scale.

Painted with a combo of Speed Paint and Fanatic paints. |

I really love the detail Eric achieves, and the posing is lovely. |

Zoya is meant to be about 7' tall, so you can see he nailed the scaling. |

Mad Thinker's attempt to get them to join his gang have failed! |
Wow! Awesome, huh? This is a slow burn project. The slowest of burns. But it is fun to have it percolating on the back-burner.
Really glad to see the blog back Scott! Also really happy to see some figures with paint on them.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry it is taking so long to finish figures.
Eric, great to see you here! This pace is perfect, really. I am just enjoying the process. Thank you!
DeleteThese are really lovely Eric and Scott👍
ReplyDeleteThanks! More where they come from!
DeleteThanks Mads. Still plugging away at it, and the support is appreciated.
DeleteMan, I am torn. On the one hand, I'm still really fond of the Old Glory sculpts. On the other, they are pretty dated at this point, aren't getting anything new and I've done pretty much all of them already. On the gripping hand, Eric's redesigns are nicely detailed and tend toward more dynamic posing. But on the Thark hand, I'm not into home printing so STLs are nowhere near as attractive as ready-to-paint traditional figs.
ReplyDeleteAh well, I hardly paint any more since I lost an eye anyway. Suppose it's a moot point.
I can definitely understand not wanting to get into home 3D printing. It is an entire hobby unto itself. Not to mention a safety and logistics puzzle on top of that.
DeleteAs far as painting goes, I am trying to design these figures with paints like Citadel Contrast or AP Speedpaints in mind. I (until recently) had very little time for painting, and that was the driving force for that decision. That might make it a little easier on you as well.
Ironically, now that I have more time and have used some of those paints, I find I don't enjoy them as much as I'd hoped I would... I'm sure it is down to practice though.
